If you have psoriasis, you may already know that it’s not just the scaly patches that can drive you nuts. Most of the time, it’s the itch that comes along with it that’s really bothersome. Also, the itching is not the regular ones. It comes with a burning sensation that’s pinching as well. In the end, it’s tough to avoid scratching, even though doing so will make it worse. Here are some ways to relief itchiness from psoriasis:

Remember to Moisturize

Moisturized skin helps reduce the inflammation and assists in healing. Use thick ones such as petroleum-type moisturizers, as opposed to thinner and watery lotions. It’s better to moisturize right after a shower so as to lock in the moisture on the skin naturally. Additionally, if creams are kept in the fridge, you can also benefit the moisturizers coolness.

Reduce the hardness of Psoriasis Scales


If you can reduce the scaling and flaking of your Psoriasis condition, you can also decrease the itch. Thus, use Salicylic acid based topical creams to help soften the scales and lift them up from the skin’s surface. Try to avoid produces with greater than 3 % salicylic acid as they may cause irritation.

Use Capsaicin to block the itchiness

Capsacin is the content in chilli peppers that gives the “hotness”. The heat helps to block itching, so find products that contain this ingredient. Studies have also shown that capsaicin can also help to reduce the inflammation and even the pain from psoriasis.

Acidic Apple Cider Vinegar helps to soothe scalp psoriasis

The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar helps to relief the itch. All you need to do is to dilute a part of apple cider vinegar with a similar portion of water. Apply this on your scalp, and rinse off after several minutes. Do this several times a week but don’t do it if you have a bleeding sore or a skin crack on your scalp.

Try out either Hot or Cold Showers

To relieve the itch, some people have found that cold baths or showers help. ON the other hand, some people feel that hot showers work better. Some dermatologists have recommended that hot showers be avoided due to the drying effect of heat. But other research has shown that hot showers help to activate nerve fibers that work to stop the itch. In any case, try out both and see which works best for your skin.

Stress relieve via exercise

As an autoimmune disease, psoriasis has been found to be related to increased stress levels. Thus, it’s best to find physical exercise activities that works best for you like jogging, swimming or even yoga.

Try out Occlusion Therapy

Occlusion works by locking down moisturizes and topical creams on the skin by wrapping them with plastic wrap for a period of time, such as through the night. When the moisture is locked in, the itch is also reduced. It’s best that a discussion with your doctor is done first so that you can identify the types of creams that work best with Occlusion Therapy.
