A recent research conducted by the Chieti-Pescara University in Italy has found that Pine Bark, or Pycnogenol as it’s medically known, is effective in combating conditions that result from poor blood flow. These conditions include psoriasis, Hemorrhoids and also Hypertension.

During the research, Psoriasis patients were given 150 mg of Pycogenal daily for a period of 3 months. When blood tests were taken after this period, 32% of Psoriasis patients reported more healing in their conditions, while another 36% reported that their treatment costs had been reduced after using Pycogenal.

Other improvements that were reported in the study include:

• Significant reductions in the area of skin affected by psoriasis in all body regions (20% reduction vs 8% reduction)
• Reduction of areas affected by redness (-44% vs -28%); skin hardening (- 45% vs -21%) and flaking (-45% vs -16%)
• Increased content of water and oil/lipids in all areas of the skin
• Reduced need for drug therapy
• Reduced oxidative stress, a key pathogenic driver of psoriasis.

Pine bark has traditionally been used to treat skin inflammation, wounds and sores on the skin through its anti-inflammatory and also antioxidant properties.

According to Dr. Gianni Belcaro, because there are minimal side effects from the use of Pine bark while being able to demonstrate positive effects in the reduction of inflammation, it can well be used safely to relief the side effects from Psoriasis.

Ultimately, the purpose of this study was to understand the effectiveness of using pine bark as a supplement in relieving Psoriasis, but not intended to be utilized as a stand-alone treatment option.
